THE CLIMB
The trail is steep, its terrain unpredictable. The path to tech mountain is littered with Square, Chase pucks, and Zoom Thrus galore.
Some days, the climb feels downright Sisyphean. After nearing the peak and seeing the sunshine crest over the hill, the darkness returns: a system update. A lost connection, a mysterious error message, an erroneous "group shopping" charge and the footing gives out.
The rubble crashes downward, but Robert anchors into the soft earth. He keeps climbing, day-in and day-out.
After years (okay, two seasons) of battling the climb, the peak is nearer than it's ever been before. And what's this? A voice, hailing from the mountaintop boisterously extending through the clouds towards him.
"Quick!" the voice bellows. "Grab onto the constants to lift you up!"
Without pause, Robert leans into what he knows. Logging into Displaydata to program a last minute birthday message, resetting the audio settings on a neighboring laptop so the airpods will reconnect, fixing the Galley so the folks who dialed in can finally hear everyone else in the room.
And just like that, he remembers. The extension cord everyone always asks for! The most consistent of constants! Of course Robert had the forethought to pack it! It's what the disembodied voice was advocating for all along.
Flinging it from his day pack, Robert grabs hold, hand over hand, climbing until finally, he's done it.
Robert has reached the peak.
